What is scalp micropigmentation?

Scalp micropigmentation is a cosmetic procedure that allows you to create a natural and realistic appearance of hair on the head, imitating its growth and texture on problem areas of the scalp. The method allows you to achieve several goals at once:

Creating a dense hair effect

The scalp micropigmentation technique is ideal for camouflaging areas of baldness and diffuse hair thinning. Precise application of pigment under the scalp skin imitates the natural shadow of hair, creating the illusion of fluff and thicker strands.

Aesthetic correction (camouflage, masking) of scars

Areas of skin with defects due to injuries, operations or congenital anomalies can be completely hidden under a layer of micropigmentation, selecting the most natural shade to match the hair tone.

Creating a shaved head effect

For men, SMP allows you to recreate the effect of closely cropped hair or fashionable "stubble" on a completely bald head. The result looks like a real sporty "polished look" haircut.

Advantages of SMP

Scalp micropigmentation is one of the few available procedures that allow you to quickly and safely correct the aesthetic defects of baldness. Its advantages:

  • Instant visual result immediately after the session
  • Absence of painful sensations and rehabilitation period
  • Ideal camouflage of scars and scarring on the scalp
  • Ability to correct the hairline as desired
  • Long-lasting cosmetic effect up to 2-3 years
  • Affordable cost compared to hair transplantation

How to prepare for a scalp scalp micropigmentation procedure

For the SMP result to be as durable and natural as possible, it is important to properly prepare for the procedure:

  • Stop taking antibiotics and other medications that affect blood clotting 2 weeks before the session.
  • Do not sunbathe for at least 7 days before scalp micropigmentation.
  • Exclude the use of caffeine, alcohol and other vasoconstrictive substances 24 hours before the procedure.
  • Prepare clean, loose hair to accurately determine the hairline.

How the procedure is performed

The SMP procedure itself consists of several steps:

  1. Consultation with the master, sketching of the hairlines and problem areas, selection of the most suitable pigment shade to match the natural hair tone.
  2. If necessary, application of an anesthetic cream to numb the scalp.
  3. The actual pigmentation using a special device with thin disposable modular needles.
  4. At the end – application of regenerating and soothing products.

The entire procedure takes from 1 to 5 hours depending on the area being treated, and the number of sessions required also depends on it. The skin reddens slightly immediately after the session, but this goes away within 2-3 days.

How to care for skin after SMP

In the first few days after scalp micropigmentation, the skin requires special care for faster healing:

  • For 2-3 days, treat the pigmented area with an antiseptic chlorhexidine 2% solution twice a day.
  • Apply regenerating creams and ointments recommended by the master daily.
  • Do not wet or rub the pigmented area until fully healed.
  • Sleep in a bandana, scarf on a small travel pillow to prevent wiping off the pigment.

The applied dots (scabs) will gradually start peeling and shedding, a process that takes about 7-10 days on average. The pigment left in the skin will lighten slightly, acquiring its final natural shade within a month.

What should not be done after scalp micropigmentation?

After a SMP session, you should avoid some impacts that could disrupt healing and "blur" the pigment:

  • Avoid swimming pools for at least 2 weeks, saunas and steam rooms for at least 1 month
  • Avoid hot baths, excessive wetting of the head
  • Avoid intense physical exertion, sweating
  • Avoid direct sunlight exposure on the healing area
  • Avoid using decorative cosmetics, hairsprays on the head
  • Avoid scratching, damaging the pigmented area

How long does the effect last?

With proper care, the result of scalp micropigmentation lasts 2-3 years depending on individual body characteristics. Pigment fading occurs evenly, so after two to three years you can undergo the procedure again to renew the effect. On average, 1-2 touch-ups are required.

SMP or Hair Transplant?

A hair transplant is a surgical operation to transplant one's own hair follicles from the donor area to bald spots. The procedure is traumatic, expensive and requires a long recovery period. Scalp micropigmentation does not affect the hair follicles, it is done by pointillistic pigment application.

Is it possible to combine them?

Yes, these two methods can complement each other. SMP can help conceal scars in the donor area after a hair transplant, as well as create an impression of denser growth. And a transplant, in turn, will add volume to the head of hair recreated with pigmentation.

Contraindications for scalp micropigmentation

Temporary Contraindications

There are a number of conditions for which SMP should be postponed until they are resolved:

  • Acute viral, bacterial, fungal infections
  • Exacerbation of chronic skin diseases (psoriasis, eczema, etc.)
  • Herpes zoster/shingles in the acute stage
  • Recovery period after chemo- or radiation therapy
  • Pregnancy and lactation period
  • Recent surgeries, injuries in the pigmentation area

Permanent Contraindications

Absolute contraindications for scalp micropigmentation include:

  • Individual intolerance to pigment components
  • Chronic skin diseases in the pigmentation area
  • Diagnosed cancer

Consultation with a specialist is mandatory before the procedure to rule out contraindications.

Scalp micropigmentation and Scalp Tattoo Pricing

The cost of SMP depends on the area being treated and the number of required sessions, with costing 100$ for one hour.

The procedure usually includes 3 pigmentation sessions with breaks for healing. A touch-up will be needed 2-3 years after the full work is completed.

IMPORTANT: EVERY PATIENT SHOULD REMEMBER THAT 100% RESULT DEPENDS 50% ON THE MASTER'S WORK + 50% ON PROPER AFTERCARE AND HEALING BY THE PATIENT!
